OSCR offers a variety of Conflict Education pathways and services, including workshops, restorative education, and processing circles. The purpose of conflict education is to spread awareness of knowledge and skills related to conflict resolution, harm reduction, and restorative practices within our campus community. It is also meant for students and groups to reflect on their behavior and receive education on how to move forward. Conflict Education is not part of a process to punish or further investigate the student but rather for students to recognize the impact of their actions and look at how to mitigate similar situations in the future. This is to create a healthy, healing culture within groups. Conflict education is tailored to each student or group and their specific case to meet the expressed needs of the individual or group.
Conflict education is used when:
- A student organization, class, or program wants to learn more about navigating conflict, link workshop request form
- Student expressed a desire for an educational conversation
- There are outcomes associated with a Statement or other U-M violations (e.g., CCI, Club Sports, etc.)
Conflict Education pathways are free and private every step of the way. These pathways will focus on topics that are specific to the individual or group and the resolution of the conflict. The purpose of these pathways is to maintain and cultivate reflective and thoughtful conversations about (future learning). Our conversations will range on a spectrum that may be tailored to meet individual or group circumstances or preferences. Students can be referred to this service either through OSCR or from one of our campus partners.
