Conflict and concerns can show up in many parts of campus life, and Student Resolution Resources can help you find the right next step. This page is here to help you navigate the common “How do I…?” questions by connecting you with clear guidance, options for resolution, and supportive resources. Whether you’re seeking to address a conflict, respond to a concern, or better understand the processes available, our goal is to provide pathways that are accessible, educational, and restorative for the community.

Resolve a Conflict
If you would like to explore pathways for resolving a conflict or talk with someone about which approach might best fit your needs, we invite you to complete the Request for Services form.
Navigate the Formal Resolution Process
After receiving notice of alleged policy violation(s), students will be invited to attend an intake meeting with a staff member from the Office of Student Accountability. During this meeting, staff will explain the formal resolution process, review the student’s rights and responsibilities, and answer questions about procedures and potential outcomes. The intake meeting is designed to provide clarity, offer understanding, and support students as they navigate the resolution process.
To help you better understand each step of the formal resolution process, direct links to the relevant sections of the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities are provided below. While the full process is described in the Statement, these quick links will guide you to specific topics—such as your rights, university procedures, accepting responsibility, hearings, appeals, and possible sanctions or interventions. We encourage you to review these sections to find the information you need as you move through the resolution process.

Get Involved
Want to get involved? You've come to the right place! There are multiple ways to get involved with the Student Resolution Resources and the conflict resolution process.
Serve as a Resolution Officer
Judicious and thoughtful faculty and staff members are relied on to serve as Resolution Officers (ROs) in the formal resolution process administered by the Office of Student Accountability (OSA). Depending on the type of hearing selected, ROs may determine responsibility themselves or assist Student Panelists during the hearing. ROs must participate in one training during the fall semester where they learn more about how the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities is administered.
Serve on a Student Panel
Each year, sixty students are appointed to serve as Student Panelists in the formal resolution process administered by OSA. Serving as a Student Panelist is by invitation only, through random selection each winter. Those who accept the invitation participate in one training during the fall semester to learn about the resolution process specified in the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities and hear from guest speakers from SAPAC, Student Legal Services, and many other corners of the University community.
Serve as an Advisor
If a student has asked you to serve as an advisor in their process and you would like to discuss the role or how to best support the student, please contact Dan Green at danhg@umich.edu.
Students navigating college in today’s global and national environment are challenged with finding tools, strategies, and language to bridge divides in order to solve our most pressing problems. The Office of Student Conflict Resolution is uniquely situated to assist our students in learning critical skills for engaging in difficult dialogues and transforming conflict.
